No other ceramicist in bonsai has provided more opportunities to creatively explore the role of the pot or vessel in a bonsai composition more than Horst Heinzelreiter. This boxwood was a cool tree in a traditional bonsai vessel. But when we put it on the Jan Culek stone, and used the creative vessel to anchor the composition from Horst, the attitude and gesture of the boxwood became something else entirely. Clinging to an eroding hillside barely able to maintain its perch, the ephemeral nature of this composition leaves much to the imagination.
